The Smilers are robotic-like creatures that keep watch over the citizens of Starship UK, simulating a police-state environment. They appear happy the majority of the time, but when actions occur outside of their level of acceptance, the head turns around first to a frowning face, and then to an angry face. They then drop the citizen in "violation" down below, for the beast to deal with.
